Project Orious

Resurrected PC Build

2017

Project Orious is my first PC build alongside being a resurrection project. Orious had a burnt southbridge due to poor overclocks and alongside a bad PSU, causing the M_BIOS Capacitor to explode.

I had prior experience with resurrecting burnt electronics before building Project Orious. I was bound by budget and curiosity when building Orious.

While I was scouring websites such as eBay and Craigslist, I found a Gigabyte GA-Z270x-Ultra-Gaming Motherboard that was listed as broken. The owner noted that the Motherboard is burnt on the Southbridge alongside DDR4_1. The owner was selling the motherboard alongside 2 x 16GB Corsair Vengence RGB Ram sticks for $85 total. I alongside bought a donor computer that was physically destroyed but had an Intel I7-6700k that was unharmed ($130). I bought a new case, a water cooler, and PSU while SSD and HDD were included with the donor pc.

After evaluating the damages with the Southbridge, I realized that I only need to replace the capacitor for the M_BIOS, and scrape the burnt marks down to a different layer of the Motherboard.

Building Orious was smooth sailing and to this day the PC is still being used as my daily. The price of Orious came down to $650 total compared to $1350 (Shipping Included).
